Disinvited author, a nature doc, and book news

 

An author gets disinvited from a school visit, Elliot Page narrates a new nature documentary, and a new horror novel will be getting a feature adaptation.

Author Disinvited from School Visit Over Gender-Nonconforming Character - The character the censors don't like is a pirate who "sometimes wears petticoats to stay cool and dons a pearl necklace because it makes him 'feel pretty.'" The book is What is a Pirate? by Melinda Beatty and it comes out on Tuesday. (from Mombian)

Groundbreaking LGBTQ+ nature documentary narrated by Elliot Page to be screened during Banned Books Week - The virtual event will place on October 10 during Banned Books Week, will feature a screening of the film followed by a live Q&A. There is a fee for this screening, but "all proceeds will support free screenings and educational initiatives designed to reach young people and communities affected by censorship." (from SceneMag)

Samantha Josephs’ Debut Horror Novel ‘Carrying’ to Receive Feature Adaptation - The book comes out on Tuesday and there has been a lot of buzz surrounding it. Now, they've signed a movie deal with Tommy Dorfman‘s Good Girl Productions, (from Variety)
